A discreet tweet could be all it takes. Find Kemp & Kemp on Twitter.

Being "in the market" will not be enough in 2010 as the keen and serious players in the property market will now be following trends and sales on Twitter and this instant information will put them ahead of the rest.

"Tweeting is a brilliant way to communicate with buyers and sellers alike," said Gavin West, director of Kemp & Kemp Residential. "We SMS, email and phone our clients with up to date information, but Twitter will enable us to reach a wider audience and speed up the flow of information to potential buyers and stakeholders."

Twitter is a private company that has offices in San Francisco and they began developing Twitter as a side project in 2006. Its success since then has been stratospheric and the company put it down to its simplicity – entries are limited to 140 characters and are sent instantly via mobile texting, instant message or the web. They recently launched m.twitter.com – a mobile site.

Co-director, Graham MacDonald, added: "There are tweeters whose input is banal and this has grabbed considerable media attention rather than the clever use of this new real-time information source. For us, being able to get information to a lot of people cheaply, instantly and simply makes Twitter a no-brainer."

Twitter has grown into a real-time short messaging service that works over multiple networks and devices. In countries all around the world, people follow the sources most relevant to them and access information via Twitter as it happens—from breaking world news to updates from friends and hot property from their estate agent.
